Drinking and Environmental Water Testing

DRINKING AND ENVIRONMENTAL WATER TESTING

As a fundamental component of all biological and ecological systems, water necessitates comprehensive physicochemical and microbiological analysis to verify its purity, safety, and suitability for intended applications.

We at METS Laboratories, employs advanced analytical methodologies that not only comply with but exceed internationally recognized standards, thereby ensuring optimal water quality, safeguarding public health, and promoting sustainable environmental management. Regulatory measures governing safe drinking water are critical for protecting public health, ensuring access to clean and safe water, and maintaining overall water quality. National and international authorities establish and enforce these standards. METS Laboratories offers extensive water testing services covering a wide spectrum of matrices, including drinking water, industrial process water, Effluent water, agricultural and irrigation water, environmental and surface water, wastewater, as well as public health and emergency water supplies. Through advanced analytical technologies and adherence to international standards, we provide accurate, reliable, and timely data essential for compliance, risk assessment, and sustainable water resource management.

WHY METS ?

Our ISO 17025-accredited laboratory provides a full range of water quality testing and analytical services for bottled drinking water, potable water, mineral water, industrial process water, and environmental samples. All analyses are performed in compliance with international standards (APHA, ISO, EPA, WHO, and national regulations) to ensure data integrity, regulatory compliance, and public health protection.

Microbiological Water Analysis:

We perform advanced microbiological analysis of drinking water to identify pathogenic and indicator microorganisms that may compromise water safety. Using culture-based and molecular (PCR) methodologies, our microbiology laboratories test for: Escherichia coli and total coliforms, Enterococci, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Legionella spp. (including L. pneumophila)

Our Legionella testing services support Legionnaires’ disease risk management in cooling towers, building water systems, and spa facilities. Routine monitoring helps prevent bacterial colonization and ensures compliance with public health requirements.

Chemical and Physicochemical Analysis:

Our chemical analysis of water includes comprehensive screening for inorganic and organic contaminants using validated analytical techniques (ICP-MS, AAS, GC-MS, IC). Typical parameters include:

Heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Hg, As, Cr, Ni, Zn, Cu)
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPHs) BTEX

Major ions and general quality indicators: pH, conductivity, hardness, chloride, alkalinity, turbidity, total dissolved solids (TDS), nitrates, and sulfates. Equipped and approved for regular wastewater sampling and testing with key parameters including pH, BOD, COD, TSS, TDS, oil and grease, ammonia nitrogen and heavy metals.

Preventive Monitoring and Risk Management

We offer comprehensive water monitoring programs designed to prevent contamination, control biofilm formation, and manage microbial proliferation in critical systems. Continuous surveillance of Legionella, Pseudomonas, and other opportunistic pathogens, combined with periodic chemical testing, supports proactive water quality risk management. Our integrated analytical services provide clients with accurate, traceable, and actionable results, enabling informed decision-making for regulatory compliance, environmental sustainability, and public health protection.

REGULATORY BODIES AND AUTHORITIES

The Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO) develops and harmonizes water quality standards across Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states to ensure human health protection, environmental sustainability, and economic integration. GSO drinking water standards—such as GSO 1025, GS0 987 and GSO 149—defines the maximum allowable concentrations of physical, chemical, and microbiological parameters in potable water. These standards are based on toxicological data and World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, incorporating safety factors to account for long-term exposure. In METS we also perform Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) related to water quality analysis. The Qatar Municipality (QM) mandates that all properties and facilities discharging wastewater into the public sewerage network must conduct regular wastewater quality testing.
